Day 11

Today started with hula lessons down in the courtyard.  We learned the basic steps and then did 3 different dances.

After hula we headed to Lydgate Beach.  There is a protected area there that is good for kids.  She the wall with the giant waves crashing on the other side?

We had a variety of weather today.  Clouds, rain, and sun!

Autumn and Ry were making floating sand castles on the boogie boards.

Silly Autumn face!

After the beach we headed to the food trucks in Kapaa.  We had to pickup the manju we ordered on Saturday from Pono Market.  Then we stopped at an ice cream store that was closed and then went to Safeway and Foodland.  Grandma and Diane were looking for shrimp chips with furikake on them.  Apparently they are hard to find and expensive.  Who’d wanna eat that anyway?!

Since we didn’t get ice cream we walked with mom to the shave ice place by the hotel.

This was Mom’s rootbeer float shave ice.  It had vanilla ice cream in the middle and condensed milk on top.  It must’ve been yummy because she ate it all.

Next it was pool time and dinner time.  Tonight’s cuisine came from Kaui Kookie Cafe.  Yes, we went to the bakery yesterday!  Dinner was good, dessert was GREAT!  Mom also bought some garlic toast-she ate the whole bag tonight!

Day 10

It’s Sunday today.  We started out the morning at Glass Beach.  The waves erode pieces of glass and the beach is covered in tiny pieces.  If you look carefully you might find bigger pieces.  There’s lots of brown, clear and green ones.  The blue’s seemed to be the hardest to find.

IMG_1718 IMG_1719 IMG_1720 IMG_1723

Can you see the tiny specks of blue and green?

IMG_1725

Mom started looking in the water so she gave the camera to Grandpa.  He just kept clicking away until she asked for her camera back!

Mom found this shell embedded in a rock.

IMG_1757

It was pretty cool to look at up close.

IMG_1756

While she was showing Autumn the rock, Autumn saw a crab running across the sand.  Can you see it?

IMG_1758

Our next stop that morning was Spouting Horn.  It’s a lava tube where water shoots up when a strong enough wave crashes into the rocks.

This was the view to the other side.

Sight seeing can make a person hungry so we headed to Bubba’s Burgers for lunch.  After a little walking around we got shave ice from Uncle’s Shave ice and headed back to the hotel.  We stopped at Safeway and ended up getting rice and poke for the adults to eat for dinner.  Mom found pipi kaula too!

At the hotel we went to the pool to play for awhile.  I met a friend from Monterey, CA and the kids played with the tubes Grandma brought for us.  Bryce was doing lots of jumping in with “Gim” (I guess K’s are a little tricky to say) but he also played in the tube with Grandpa!

No one really wanted to go out for dinner and Jeff and Caitlin decided to get a Costco pizza.  Autumn and I shared that with them, mom ate leftovers, and Grandma, Grandpa, and Diane ate the poke.  A low key night in the room.  Oh did I mention they all had more hula pie?!  I was to busy in my room watching a show on my iPod, but apparently Jeff and Caitlin went down to Duke’s and brought up a slice for dessert!

Day 9

Today we headed to the beach first thing this morning, but we got distracted and ended up in the pool

Turtle action with “Autumn power”

And turtle action with Grandpa power.

IMG_1710

We finally headed to the beach when Ry and Bryce came down.  This was just a little cousin meeting out in the waves.

IMG_1713

Bryce wanted turtle time with Grandpa.  He was out there a long time!

IMG_1715

The older kids stayed down at the beach and Mom took Bryce to the kiddie pool.  Later he went for a pool turtle ride too.

IMG_1716

We went up to Kapaa to walk around a little.  Autumn got a bronco’s colored fuzzy headband and I got a hand painted hat.  We also got hawaiian dresses from Grandma.  Then we went to Anatolia Cafe for dinner.  Across from the hotel Mom saw an ice cream shop so we decided to check it out.  The adults shared a s’mores sundae with macadamia nut ice cream.  It must’ve been good because they ate it all and didn’t take a picture

IMG_8983

We had a parking ticket to get in and validation from the ice cream place so our parking was going to be free.  But when we were leaving this is the sign at the gate.  Mom says it’s paid parking “Hawaiian style”!
